Pearl brings their Wood/Fiberglass Drum Sets straight from the 1970s from when drummers wanted a louder, brighter sound than what was available at the time. These drums are for drummers who want to get back to their roots, with articulate highs and warm lows. Each shell features 2 plies of poplar, 4 plies of kapur, and an inner ply of fiberglass which has been hand-applied and lacquered in great detail. The kapur supplies dark tonal qualities, while the fiberglass enhances sonic cutting power.
The bass drum has been cut with a fully-rounded bearing edge to help focus the fundamental pitch and reduce unwanted overtones, while the toms are cut with 45-degree edges to let their heads ring as much as they can. Wood/Fiberglass drums come with the Opti-Mount tom suspension system, eliminating the need to drill mounting equipment into the shell. This increases the drum's resonance greatly - which is why the bass drum is also devoid of any tom mounts. These drums also come equipped with 2.3mm Triple-Flanged Superhoops that make tuning easy.
